Fibromyalgia Natural Remedy - What Can You Do?

By Matt Ream

Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that may affect any area of the body, but is most commonly found in the shoulders, neck, back, pelvic girdle and hands. In an effort to avoid the serious side effects and the addictive nature of some conventional medicines, more and more sufferers are turning toward a natural remedy for Fibromyalgia. A natural remedy, as the name implies, is one that does not include the use or consumption of medications.

Developing proper sleeping habits is one of the best ways to gain a natural remedy for Fibromyalgia. This includes going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, making sure that the sleep area is free from distractions and is a comfortable temperature. In addition, avoiding caffeine will also help individuals to fall asleep better, as will doing light exercise throughout the day and practicing relaxation techniques. In extreme cases, sleep medications may be prescribed. Patients are urged to carefully consider the use of any medication that is addictive, which is often the case with sleep inducing medication.

Emotional support from friends and family members is a very effective natural remedy for Fibromyalgia. Chronic illnesses often pose serious challenges for most people, not just on a physical level but psychologically and emotionally as well. Opening lines of communication within ones support system of family and friends is proven to have a positive effect on relieving individuals with Fibromyalgia. There are many support groups across the country that were created for those with the same condition to share and validate their experiences.

In addition to the aforementioned options used as a natural remedy for Fibromyalgia, many individuals find that physical therapy, massages, light aerobics, the application of heat or cold, yoga, relaxation exercises, aromatherapy, breathing techniques and nutritional supplements may help to ease their discomfort.

Natural remedies for Fibromyalgia combined with conventional medical treatments can offer the patient a better quality of life and the best chance for an improved prognosis. It is not recommended that the patient relies on any one regimen but rather a combination of both conventional and natural Fibromyalgia treatment programs for the best possible outcome.
